DIRECTING GROW

Written by Jared Gay, Animator / Director

Big, beautiful glass windows! Those were the backdrop of our Grow video, and what a beautiful backdrop they were.

Every time I approach a new product I have two goals. 1) I want to create a video that makes its intended audience feel like, “Hey! This is going to change my life for the better!” and 2) I want to make the product look beautiful.

We did that with Grow.

Grow makes it effortless to harness internal and external data tied to your business. Think of different sources of revenue you might have. In minutes you can have all that data visualized however you like on a beautiful dashboard. Marketing costs and analytics? Easy – visualized. Sources of web traffic?

Visualized! You can take the mountains of data you have and sift and manipulate them with the click of a mouse.

To make Grow look beautiful, we planned and prepared and showed up to set ready to work. We picked a great spokesperson, Aaron Kahng. He was fantastic to work with and had a natural charisma. We shot in Grow’s new office space with its glorious windows. I also drew up detailed storyboards so that we could march through production without any surprises or unforeseen challenges. It really did go so smoothly.

As beautiful as the windows were, they presented a visual effects challenge we knew we had to prepare for. We had to light our talent from the front to make them stand out against the bright windows, and this meant that our lights and flags would be visible on the windows behind them. But we were prepared, and we planned, so making those lights invisible in the final video was no challenge at all. James Terry and David Thorpe worked as a killer DP & gaffer combo to keep the lighting consistent and beautiful as the sun moved behind our windows throughout the day.

Anyway, Grow is a fantastic B2B product, and it was an honor to work on a great product with a great team. Grow was immensely helpful as we learned about their product and the best way to present it. So take a watch, enjoy the windows, enjoy the motion graphics, and enjoy your day.
